About me
Art has always been a passion of mine as a kid. Growing up in the Philippines, I spent my summers mostly drawing or painting and sometimes playing sports. Early on I knew that it was a natural trajectory to pursue a career in design. I came to New York and graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Communications Design and a major in Graphic Design in 2009. I have gained tremendous experience working in advertising, branding, and marketing agencies, as well as in-house prior to jumping into a freelance career.
The call to feel challenged and continuously learn new things has always been a part of my growth as a designer. I was relentless in attending webinars, taking courses and workshops to gain industry knowledge and expand my skillset. In the summer of 2013, I took an intensive 1-week workshop on advanced typographic and graphic design, mentored by Massimo Vignelli. Through him I learned that good design should be semantic, syntactic & pragmatic.
To break it down. Semantics is the search for meaning and purpose through research. Syntax in design relates to the overall structure of its components such as the grid and typographic elements. Pragmatic refers to the ‘clarity of intent’ to fulfill the users’ needs.
Throughout my professional career, I have absorbed these values and have integrated them into my UX process. My multi-disciplinary approach to design allows me to incorporate logic and structure to enhance the experience of products and services. It is manifested in the ways I visually communicate information—simple, meaningful and intuitive.
